(2019) Skeletal Muscles Do Not Undergo Apoptosis During Either Atrophy or Programmed Cell Death-Revisiting the Myonuclear Domain Hypothesis. We are currently expanding this analysis to examine skeletal muscle disorders in mammals. Recently, we performed a comprehensive RNA-seq transcriptomics analysis of both the mRNAs and small RNAs to identify all of the differentially expressed genes, as well as the microRNAs that regulate their stability and translatability. The ability of the ISMs to commit suicide requires de novo gene expression, and we have use a variety of molecular techniques to clone death-associated transcripts from these cells. These giant cells are used to propel the moth out of the pupal cuticle at the end of metamorphosis, and then they die during a 30 hr period in response to a specific hormonal trigger. To define the molecular mechanisms that mediate this process, we have exploited the intersegmental muscles (ISM) of moth as a model system. Defects in the regulation of cell death serves as the basis of many human diseases, including auto-immunity, neurodegeneration and most cancers. He enjoyed his independence and his life in Atlanta, according to his brother, David, who said a fall off the treadmill during a run led to the devastating diagnosis of brain cancer.Programmed cell death is a fundamental component of development and homeostasis in virtually all organisms. Building on that new technology knowledge, he returned east, to Philadelphia, to help Time Warner's AOL Broadband business before returning to cable affiliate work, this time with Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta, a place where he would call his new home. He then ventured into new technology, ahead of the curve, by moving West to Silicon Valley, where he was employed by Excite and then Cisco. Schwartz joined Oceanic Cable (Time Warner Cable) in Hawaii for about four years before moving to New York City with A+E Television Networks, where he spent 10 years, including being the CTAM chapter president. He entered the television industry at KGMB, a CBS broadcast affiliate in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to a tribute posted on the CTAM New York Chapter LinkedIn page by former CTAM colleague Steve Goldmintz. Please RSVP to attend.īorn in 1958 in Seattle, he graduated with a dual degree from Seattle University.

in the Club Room at Spire Midtown, 860 Peachtree St NE (corner of 7th and Peachtree) in Atlanta. The gathering in Joel Schwartz's honor will be from 4-7 p.m.
